Why Homeowners Choose Quartz
Quartz is an engineered stone made from approximately 90% ground natural quartz crystals bound with polymer resins. The manufacturing process eliminates the pores found in natural stone, which means quartz does not absorb liquids, does not require annual sealing, and resists the bacteria and staining that affect granite and marble over time.
For Florida homeowners, those properties matter. In a climate where kitchens handle year-round cooking, humidity, and frequent cleaning, a surface that needs no maintenance cycle and holds up to acidic spills without etching is genuinely valuable. Quartz has been our most-installed countertop material at J&A Stone since we opened our Auburndale fabrication shop in 2018.
One important limitation: quartz is not UV stable. Direct sunlight causes quartz to yellow and discolor over time. For outdoor kitchens, lanais, and sun-exposed surfaces, we recommend porcelain slab instead. We tell every client this before they commit to a material. If your project involves outdoor surfaces, ask us about the right option for your specific space.

Note on outdoor quartz: Quartz contains polymer resins that are not UV stable. Any quartz installed in direct sun will yellow within 1 to 3 years. For Florida lanais and outdoor kitchens, porcelain slab is the correct choice. We will tell you this before you order, not after.
Material Properties
Six things Polk County homeowners cite most often when explaining why they chose quartz over granite or marble.
Granite and marble need to be sealed every 1 to 3 years to maintain stain resistance. Quartz is non-porous by manufacturing. There is no sealing schedule, no reapplication, and no performance decline over time when that step is skipped.
The non-porous surface means liquids sit on top rather than penetrating the stone. Coffee, wine, citrus, and cooking oils wipe clean without leaving marks. Marble etches from acidic contact. Quartz does not.
Natural stone varies between slabs. Two granite countertops from the same lot will look different. Quartz uses engineered pigmentation to produce consistent color and pattern across the full surface, which matters for large islands or open-plan kitchens where continuity is visible.
Soap and water is the standard cleaning method. No specialty stone cleaners, no pH restrictions on household products. You can clean quartz the same way you clean any hard surface in your kitchen without risk of damage or finish loss.
Quartz scores between 7 and 8 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it harder than most kitchen tools. Routine knife and cookware contact will not scratch the surface. A cutting board is still recommended, but accidental contact is unlikely to cause damage.
Modern quartz manufacturing produces surfaces that closely mimic the appearance of marble, concrete, stone, and solid color palettes. You can get the visual character of a more demanding natural stone with the practical performance of an engineered surface.
Brands Available at Our Auburndale Showroom
Every brand we carry is available to compare in person at our Auburndale showroom. We stock slab samples so you can evaluate color, pattern, and thickness under real light before committing.
One of the most consistently specified quartz brands in Florida residential and commercial projects. Pental offers a wide color range from stark whites through deep charcoals, with veined and solid surface options. The material quality and slab consistency have made it our most-installed quartz brand by volume since 2018.
Spectrum produces a range of surfaces that closely mimic the movement and veining of natural marble. Popular with homeowners who want the look of Calacatta or Carrara marble with none of the maintenance requirements. Available in standard 3 cm thickness for countertop applications.
MSI's quartz line covers a wide spectrum from budget-friendly standard colors through premium large-format slabs with dramatic veining. MSI has broad distribution across Florida, which simplifies material sourcing timelines. A solid option for projects where budget and availability both matter.
We can also source other quartz brands on request. If you have seen a specific slab at another showroom or in a design publication, bring the product name and we will confirm whether it can be sourced and installed within your project timeline.
From Slab Selection to Installation
Every quartz countertop we install follows the same five-step process. Every step is handled by our own team.
Compare slab samples in person at our Auburndale showroom. We discuss your layout, edge profile options, and thickness choices based on your kitchen or bathroom design. No appointment required, though scheduling ensures dedicated time with our team.
After the showroom visit, we schedule a visit to your home to take precise measurements and assess your installation conditions. This is how we give you a number you can actually plan around, not a rough estimate that changes at fabrication.
Your quartz slab is cut, edged, and finished at our Auburndale fabrication shop using our own equipment and crew. Edge profiles, sink cutouts, and seam placement are all handled in-house. Most quartz projects reach fabrication-complete status within 5 to 7 business days.
Our installation crew delivers and sets the fabricated countertop. We handle plumbing disconnection and reconnection coordination, cabinet leveling checks, and silicone sealing at all joints and wall transitions. The worksite is cleaned before we leave.
We walk every surface with you before the job is called complete. You receive specific care instructions for your quartz brand. If anything needs adjustment, we handle it before leaving. The job is not complete until you confirm it is.
