Natural Stone — No Two Slabs Alike

What Makes Granite the Enduring Choice

Granite is an igneous rock formed under extreme heat and pressure deep in the earth's crust. The mineral composition, including quartz, feldspar, mica, and various trace elements, is what creates the unique color, pattern, and crystal structure in each slab. No two granite countertops will ever look exactly the same, which is both the material's defining appeal and its defining challenge.

That uniqueness requires hands-on slab selection. We recommend visiting our Auburndale showroom to compare material in person. Looking at granite on a screen or in a small sample chip does not tell you what a full slab will look like in your kitchen under your lighting. Our team pulls full slabs for you to evaluate before any order is placed.

Granite is a porous natural stone. It requires sealing at installation and on a regular schedule thereafter, typically every 1 to 3 years depending on the specific stone and how heavily the surface is used. We seal every granite countertop we install and walk you through the maintenance schedule before the job is complete.

For outdoor kitchens and lanais, granite is one of the few countertop materials that performs well in direct Florida sunlight. Unlike quartz, it is UV stable and will not yellow or discolor from sun exposure.

Slab selection matters: Every granite slab is unique. We pull full slabs for you to review before any fabrication order is placed. What you see in person is what gets cut for your home. We do not finalize an order from a sample chip or a website photo.

Why Granite

The Properties That Make Granite Last

What Polk County homeowners ask us about granite before they decide whether it is the right material for their kitchen or bathroom.

🌍
Every Slab Is Unique

No two granite countertops will look the same. The mineral composition that creates the pattern varies from slab to slab within the same quarry lot. Homeowners who want a one-of-a-kind surface that no catalog can replicate choose granite for exactly this reason.

☀️
UV Stable Outdoors

Unlike quartz, granite does not contain polymer resins that degrade in UV light. This makes it a reliable choice for Florida outdoor kitchens, lanais, and covered areas where the surface receives direct or reflected sunlight throughout the year.

🔥
Heat Tolerant

Granite formed under extreme geological heat. It handles hot pots, pans, and baking sheets placed directly on the surface without cracking or discoloring. A trivet is still good practice, but accidental contact with hot cookware will not damage granite the way it can damage other materials.

💪
Extremely Hard Surface

Granite scores 6 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it resistant to scratching from knives, pots, and everyday kitchen use. The surface does not show wear marks under normal conditions. It is one of the hardest naturally occurring countertop materials available.

💰
Adds Resale Value

Granite countertops are consistently cited in Florida real estate listings as a selling feature. The perceived quality and longevity of natural stone is well established among buyers. An investment in granite typically returns a meaningful portion of its cost in resale value, particularly in Polk County's competitive housing market.

🧹
Durable Long-Term

Granite countertops that are properly sealed and maintained last for decades. We have seen granite installations from the early 2000s in excellent condition in homes across Polk County. The stone itself does not degrade. The maintenance requirement is sealing, not replacement.

Edge Profiles

Choose Your Edge Profile at the Showroom

The edge profile is the finished edge of your countertop. We fabricate all standard profiles in-house. Compare options at our Auburndale showroom before your order is finalized.

Eased Edge

A square edge with the top corner slightly softened. Clean, modern, and the most common profile in current kitchen design. Pairs well with flat-panel cabinet styles.

Beveled Edge

A 45-degree angled cut along the top edge. Slightly more decorative than an eased edge while remaining contemporary. Good for transitional kitchen designs.

Bullnose Edge

A fully rounded top and bottom edge. Traditional and soft in appearance. A common choice for bathroom vanities and older home renovation projects.

Ogee Edge

An S-curve profile with a convex upper section and concave lower section. More decorative and formal. Often chosen for traditional or Mediterranean-style kitchen designs.

Waterfall edges, mitered profiles, and custom edge requests are available. Ask our team at the showroom or when you call.

Common Questions

Granite Countertop FAQ

Installed granite countertop costs in Polk County typically range from $45 to $80 per square foot, including the slab, in-house fabrication at our Auburndale shop, and professional installation. A standard kitchen countertop of 35 to 45 square feet typically runs $1,600 to $3,600 installed. Exotic slab selections, complex edge profiles, or large island configurations push toward the upper end of that range. We confirm exact pricing in writing after a free on-site visit.
Most granite countertops should be sealed every 1 to 3 years, depending on the porosity of the specific stone. Darker granites with tight mineral structures often need sealing less frequently than lighter, more porous stones. We seal every granite countertop we install and give you a sealing recommendation specific to your material. The water bead test, where you drop water on the surface and check whether it beads or absorbs, is an easy way to determine when resealing is needed.
Yes. Granite is UV stable and handles Florida's sun, heat, and humidity without yellowing or discoloring. It is one of the few natural stone options that performs reliably in direct outdoor conditions. For outdoor kitchens, lanais, and pool areas, granite is a solid choice. It should still be sealed on a regular schedule, particularly for outdoor surfaces exposed to weather and cleaning chemicals.
Granite is extremely hard and resists chipping under normal kitchen use. It can chip at edges if struck with significant force, and extreme thermal shock, such as pouring ice water on a surface that has been heated directly, can theoretically cause stress fractures. Under normal daily kitchen conditions, these scenarios are rare. Proper support during fabrication and installation prevents stress cracks from improper overhang or cabinet gaps.
Yes, and we strongly recommend it. We do not take granite orders from sample chips or catalog photos. Every granite slab is unique, and the actual stone you are selecting can look meaningfully different from a 4-inch sample. We pull full slabs at our Auburndale showroom so you can see the exact material that will be fabricated for your home before the order is placed.
Neither is universally better. They serve different needs. Quartz requires no sealing and is more stain-resistant, making it lower maintenance for busy kitchens. Granite has a natural, one-of-a-kind look, is UV stable for outdoor use, and handles heat better. For homeowners who want natural stone character and are willing to seal on a schedule, granite is an excellent long-term investment. For those who want zero maintenance, quartz is the more practical choice. We walk through this comparison with every client before they decide.
